Retinol and when to use it

Retinol also nicknamed AHA - what is it and when to use it

Retinol is very much a buzz word as the New Year hits.

It is an amazing product and gives incredible smooth, flawless, firmer and healthier skin.

However, apply with CAUTION! What skin brands don’t tell you is that a retinoid reaction is super easy to experience if the skin hasn’t had the right time to be introduced to it. Luckily for you, we are here to help use retinol safely on your skin and get the results you desire.

The science of it…

Your skin is made up in 2 different sub layers. The top 5 are the cells that will renew the soonest and don’t really absorb much of the creams, lotions or serums that we apply (these are called the epidermis). But the lower layer (called the dermis) is where the cells are created and where we want to send the products to work their magic.

We start with a complimentary consultation where we analyse the skin and assess what is going on. We look at a range of skin types:-

·     Ageing / Sagging / Lined

·     Dry / Dehydrated / Dull

·     Acne of all ages / Oily / Congested

With each skin type comes a different plan, starting from cleansing and toning, moving onto which moisturiser to use, and ending with SPF which we call RAD.

We recommend facials with our skin products to get the MOST out of your products but they are not essential. They just speed up the results and make your products at home work easier.

Back to vitamin A and what it does. Vitamin A is a version of Retinol and it comes in different percentages, again to build up your skin tolerance to it. But what does it do? It breathes life into your skin. Dr Des Fernandes (scientist and surgeon who helped found Environ) discovered that when vitamin A was used on the skin after his operations on clients, that not only did the skin heal amazingly, but the skin around it was smoother, tighter, firmer and overall healthier. This got him thinking, what if he could make this into a product that you can apply all over the skin! That is just what he did, the AVST 1 vitamin A moisturiser which a lot of clients start their journey on is the original cream that he founded over 30 years ago. When you start to use it, you will see a glow, smoothness, firmness and you will find people commenting on how well you look and probably not linking it to your new found skincare! You really have to try it to believe it.

CACI is a british brand ‘caci international’. It has made waves across the professional beauty industry since 1992, providing leading non-invasive aesthetic treatment systems, synonymous with the non-surgical facelift. Originally created for sufferers of the medical problem Bells Palsy where the muscles in the face drop. The machine exercises the muscles to help them remember where they once were to improve tone of the muscle and memory. The results were so astounding that the beauty industry grabbed it and ran with it. Then CACI was born and has been a staple for clients since then. The Anti-ageing machine is used to tone and firm the face and facial muscles. It improves tone, firmness, hydration to the skin and lifts contours and muscles. This facial uses probes and electrical current to send waves to the ‘belly’ of the muscle which helps it remember its original more youthful tone. We then use ETR pads to plump and firm the surface of the skin so all the layers of the skin are treated. When selected, the wrinkle comb fills and plumps fine lines working like a temporary botox. We offer this all over the face or on focused areas like the lips for a lip plumping effect, or around the smile lines or eyes. The facials range from 1 hour to 1.5 hours and are likened to the gym for the face, you don’t just go to the gym once for the best results, you need to go more than once. We advise 10-15 facials in quick succession to again help the muscles remember their tone and where they used to be. There is no ‘downtime’ after your facials so you can go out and about after without worrying about redness etc. Make up can be applied straight after if wanted.
